Simulations and observations of Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) cloud and near-surface fogs at the Phoenix site in the Arctic region of Mars will be presented with an emphasis on interaction with the surface. The observations during the Phoenix mission include measurements of clouds by the LIDAR and Surface Stereo Imager (SSI), water vapour by the Thermal and Electrical Conductivity Probe (TECP), and temperature by the MET package. These observations will be used to constrain simulations that will address the diurnal and seasonal patterns in the formation of clouds and fogs and their variability. The amount of water taken up by the surface in the form of precipitation and extraction of vapor from the air will also be constrained. Ultimately, our observations will help to determine the degree to which the expressions of water vapor observed at the Phoenix Landing site are the result of local atmospheric processes.
