History Of Astronomy: Telescopes
Scientific paper
The authors report an extensive investigation of the Gregorian telescopes made by the gunsmith, Tobei Kunitomo, in the 1830 era. The research was motivated by the fact that the telescopes' metal mirrors have kept their brilliance over 160 years and this fact seemed to be contrary to an ordinary understanding that metal mirrors shortly suffer from surface clouding after polishing.
