A numerical study is presented of the generation of internal gravity waves in the midlatitude thermosphere by the auroral electrojet. The solution of the two-dimensional equations of hydrothermodynamics is used to study the dependence of the amplitude, quasi-period, time variation, and propagation velocity of the waves on the space-time distribution of electric field and conductivity in the electrojet during substorms. The transition from wave-type motions to wind-type motions in the thermosphere is examined.
