Galaxies: Clusters: General

The method based on the wavelet transform has been applied to positions of galaxies in 18 rich Abell clusters in a search for the presence of subclustering. This study has shown that substructures are present in about 50% of cases. If our result is applicable generally to clusters (as other studies also indicate), then we conclude that subclustering is an important feature of cluster structure and hence of evolution.
