In the course of a high resolution study of the globular cluster NGC 6791, Peterson & Green (1998) have found a pattern of radial velocity clumping at the 2 km/s level in the relatively small sample of cluster non-member stars in the field. We propose to get radial velocities for a statistically significant sample of non-cluster stars in this same field in order to test whether there exists phase space structure in the thick disk or halo field. A similar radial velocity clumping discovered at a similar Galactic latitude led to the discovery of the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy (Ibata et al. 1994), a finding which has had a profound effect on Milky Way studies. The proposed spectroscopic followup will allow us to determine whether the direction towards NGC 6791 contains tidal debris from another disrupted dwarf galaxy or globular cluster.
