The noise and band characteristics of nonregenerative parametric
up-converters (used in radio astronomy) are analyzed. A computer model
is used to examine the passband widening of the converter, and test
converters (in the 8 and 18 cm ranges) were found to have a relative
passband close to that computed (about 40%).
