High-J CO observations performed from aboard the KAO (Kuiper Airborne Observatory) in Sep. 1988 and Feb./Mar. 1989 are reported. The first high resolution detections of CO (J = 9 to 8) at 289 microns, CO (J = 11-10) at 237 microns, CO (J = 12-11) at 217 microns and CO (J = 14-13) at 186 microns were made and the OMC 1 (Orion Molecular Cloud 1) was studied over several arcmin around BN-KL. The flux distribution in the high J transitions roughly follows the distribution as it is known from CO (J = 7-6) observations. The most prominent position is BN-KL. However, total fluxes of more than 100 K.km/sec are found up to three arcmin distance in CO (J = 14-13). The lines show widths of 4 to 5 km/sec along the molecular ridge. Narrow lines with widths of 2 to 3 km/sec were found in positions north east of BN-KL and the ionization bar.
