The energy spectrum of gamma quanta is studied at various depths of the atmosphere (6 to 1000 g-sq cm). Measurements were carried out with a gamma-telescope during two high-altitude balloon flights in December 1972 and July 1974 at a geomagnetic cutoff rigidity of 3.5 GV. The instrument consisted of a system of Cerenkov and scintillation counters and of three-spark chambers with photographic output. The exponent of the differential energy spectrum of gamma quanta with energies greater than 0.8 GeV is plotted against the altitude.
