A stable HCN laser with an output power of 50 mW was built as a local oscillator for a 337 micrometer heterodyne system. The laser is mounted on a marble bench. The cavity of the laser consists of a plane and a concave mirror of 50 mm diameter and 6 m radius of curvature. The radiation pattern of the sub-mm coupling system is presented and the experimental signal response at the IF terminal is shown as a function of the reflector distance.
