Investigations of non-linear phenomena in the ionosphere modified by intense radio waves carried out during the past few years in the U.S.S.R. are reviewed. Among the observed phenomena are changes in the ionospheric ionizing effectiveness, the production of artificial defocussing by a lens mechanism, effects caused by striction, etc. A number of theoretical results on plasma phenomena in the disturbed ionospheric regions are also given.
