We investigate the black hole mass - stellar velocity dispersion (M-σ) relation for a sample of 0.1 > z > 0.3 red quasars. Our sample was chosen from the 2MASS catalog. These objects suffer from heavy extinction at shorter wavelengths, making it possible to obtain clean spectra of the host galaxies and reliably measure stellar velocity dispersions. At longer wavelengths quasar broad emission lines (e.g., Hα) are still observable. We obtained deep, medium resolution spectroscopic observations with the Echelle Spectrograph and Imager on Keck II. We determined the reddening of the quasar nucleus and employed the virial method to measure the black hole mass. We measured the stellar velocity dispersions by convolving a stellar template with a gaussian to match the observed optical spectra. We focused on the spectral regions 3900 - 4600 A and 5100 - 5550 A (with some specific regions masked), as these show little extinction or contamination from the AGN. The objects of our sample are in general agreement with the local M-σ relation, with perhaps a hint of some galaxies hosting over-massive black holes at higher redshift.
