Γ Ray Burst-Radiation Mechanism-Inverse Compton Scattering

Scientific paper

We believe that inverse Compton scattering in strong magnetic field may be the main emission mechanism of γ ray bursts. Protons in the source region generate low-frequency photons which, through Compton scattering by nonthermal electrons in a strong magnetic field, gives rise to the spectrum. Using the Compton scattering cross section under a strong magnetic field in the non-relativistic case (B/Bcr << 1, hνi/mec2 << 1), we have successfully fitted the observed spectrum of typical burst GB 811016.
