Analytical solutions are obtained for the problem of determining the density matrix for inverse Compton reflection from a semi-infinite medium and for the Milne problem. The angular distribution and polarization are determined in the limiting cases of a small frequency increment and a large frequency increment for an unpolarized incident beam. It is shown that both the polarization and the angular distribution in inverse Compton reflection depend on how much the frequency changes during scattering. It is noted that polarization through reflection could result when the radiation emitted by one component of a binary system is scattered in the atmosphere of its companion. The implication of these results for close binary systems like HZ Her/Her X-1 and binary systems in which one component is a black hole are examined. In addition, these results can also be used to describe the radiation of a number of extragalactic objects such as NGC 4151 and Centaurus A.
