We propose wide-field (15' × 15') SQIID JHK imaging of 10-11 young (< 1 Myr) stellar clusters and groups targeted for our SIRTF GTO observations. These SQIID observations will be a key component in an IR/X-ray/millimeter-wave study of young stellar groups and clusters within 1 kpc of the Sun, with the goals of: 1.) surveying each group and cluster to below the hydrogen burning limit (0.08 M_&sun;), 2.) determining the 1-24 (micron) infrared spectral energy distribution (SED) for every star and protostar detected in each cluster, and 3.) using the SEDs to compare the star and planet formation properties in each region. The combined SQIID+SIRTF data will provide a complete inventory of circumstellar disks and protostars in our sample of young stellar clusters. SQIID data alone (Peterson et al. 2002) provide a census of potential brown dwarf candidates, and a preliminary look at the spatial distribution of low and high mass objects in the cluster. SQIID is particularly important for the many clusters at distances greater than 500 pc, where a higher sensitivity is needed to detect deeply embedded sources.
