In these lectures, we will give a short introduction into some basics of string theory. The main focus will be on the bosonic string, as many ideas and methods can already be understood in this simple setting. However, we also review some aspects of the superstring and mention recent developments. More precisely, we discuss the quantization of the bosonic string and the relation to conformal field theory. We also touch upon more advanced topics such as D-branes, compactifications and T-duality. Finally, we give a broad overview of the superstring and mention some further topics of interest, relevant to current research.
