Nuclear mass loss is an important component of the overall structure and evolution of Seyfert galaxies and their environments. We present a detailed look into the basic properties of the O VI absorption in the outflow gas from the Seyfert 1 galaxy I Zw 1 (UGC 00545) using pipeline-calibrated data from the archives of the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer, covering a spectral range of 900 Å to 1200 Å. We use continuum and emission line fits constructed with the IRAF tool specfit to measure the absorption properties from the normalized spectrum. We calculate the velocity-dependent effective covering fraction and column density of the O VI gas over several velocity components. We compare this to the properties already measured at lower resolution in C IV and N V absorption data from the Faint Object Spectrograph on the HST and in more highly ionized species in the X rays from XMM-Newton data.
