It is shown that, in the presence of a radiation field, molecular clouds are unstable to small fluctuations in dust concentration. Bodies of cometary dimensions will grow by coagulation of grains in molecular clouds and may comprise a significant heavy element sink. Growth of a comparable mass of lunar-sized planetesimals is also possible. Possible implications for star and planet formation are discussed briefly.
