Scientific paper

The observation and study of interstellar CH3OH masers are briefly reviewed. The classification, forming regions, radiation spectrum and kinematical properties of the masers are summarized. Their time variation, excitation mechanism and extragalactic emission are also presented. Finally the two classes of CH3OH masers are compared and discussed.
