For the Be star Gamma Cas, observations in the 1.0-1.7 micron spectral region of both the infrared continuum and the high-n Brackett, Pa beta, Pa gamma, and He I lambda 10830 emission-line profiles are presented. Conventional observations of Balmer lines made at the same time are also presented. A comparison is made with a theoretical model of gamma Cas developed in detail by Poeckert and Marlborough (1978). The model Brackett 14 profile is in reasonable agreement with the observations, but for Pa beta the predicted line is too strong, much too wide, and of the incorrect shape. A systematic velocity shift between the observations and the model is also detected. Although it seems possible to improve agreement between the model and the observations by adjustment of some model parameters, the prospect of obtaining agreement for all observed features appears remote.
