The article presents results of a wave-propagation experiment conducted at swept frequencies on a mother-daughter rocket in the polar F-region. Signals were essentially detected in the form of a series of resonances where wave energy appeared also at frequencies notably different from those of the primary stimuli. Theoretical computations have been carried out to provide guidelines for appropriate interpretation of the phenomena observed. The analysis tends to emphasize the importance of the cone resonances occurring below the gyrofrequency and between the plasma and the upper-hybrid frequencies. In particular, the lower-frequency cone resonance is a persistent characteristic of the data. Other resonances are interpreted as occurring closer to the plasma frequency and in the bands of the cyclotron harmonic waves. Nonlinear properties are briefly discussed, and the mechanism of 'weak plasma turbulence' has been suggested as being capable of providing a possible explanation.
