The possibility of interpreting flares of red dwarf stars by means of the inverse Compton effect is discussed. To this end, expressions previously used for the law of transformation of the frequencies in an elementary scattering event and for the differential cross section are made more precise. The obtained results emphasize the importance of taking into account the directions in treating the photon-electron interaction. Examination of the different physical models of the flare phenomenon shows that the mechanism based on inverse Compton scattering encounters great difficulties in the interpretation of observational data.
