CO Δυ = 2 line profiles of α Her obtained from a high-resolution Fourier-transform spectrum are analysed by means of spherically extended model atmospheres. It is found that (1) line scattering is very small in spite of the low density in the outer atmosphere, (2) the microturbulence is about 3 km s-1, and (3) the star does not have an extended cool envelope. The carbon abundance appears to be solar.
