It is shown that the time required by a light particle to travel from one position to another position in the one-body field of an arbitrary gravitational theory can be calculated. The time delay depends on two functions of one variable. In most gravitational theories, e.g. in Einstein's general theory of relativity, the two functions are polynomials, and the time lapse depends only on three constant coefficients.
