Interplanetary Magnetic Field: Disturbances

Scientific paper

The authors investigate an interplanetary disturbance near the Earth and the corresponding magnetospheric storm as a result of the interaction between two powerful solar flares and the heliospheric current layer on March 2 - 7, 1972. It is assumed that this interaction produced the characteristic features for an interplanetary disturbance - a relatively high plasma density in the bow shock layer, a streamer and reverse MHD compaction, which in turn enabled the generation of the characteristic features for a magnetospheric storm.
