A method is outlined for computing the line profile of L-alpha radiation that is resonantly scattered by interstellar hydrogen atoms in the solar system. Results are presented for line-profile calculations which take into account the non-Maxwellian velocity distribution of the interstellar hydrogen atoms. Effects of solar gravitational attraction and of solar UV and corpuscular radiation on measurements of the temperature of the interstellar medium in the solar neighborhood are evaluated. It is concluded that the associated error in determining the temperature of the interstellar wind could be as high as 3000 to 4000 K for the mean level of solar activity.
