The visual and recent infrared observations which reveal the complex geometry of the zodiacal dust cloud are reviewed. The plane of symmetry is probably warped and coincides with neither the ecliptic nor invariable plane. The albedo of the dust particles is small, ≡.1, although the dust responsible for reflected sunlight may have different properties than that giving rise to the infrared. The infrared observations which support both an asteroidal and cometary origin for the dust are discussed and observations are suggested to resolve this issue by future large telescopes in space.
