The measurement of radial velocity curves for ultrashort period variable stars and the search for solar-type stellar oscillations are undertaken by Fabry-Perot and Michelson interferometric stellar oscillation spectrometers. The two instruments are noted to be intrinsically stable at the 1 m/sec level; the Michelson instrument is in addition capable of a photon-shot-noise-limited sensitivity of better than 1 m/sec for the case of bright stars. Although the normal mode of operation of the Fabry-Perot instrument yields only positional information, it can be used as a scanning spectrometer for very rapid, accurate, time-resolved line profile information.
