An optical design for the imaging interferometer to be used in the Solar Interferometric Mission for Ultrahigh Resolution Imaging Spectroscopy (SIMURIS) is presented. A significant requirement is the VUV performance (down to 120 nm) which is beyond what has been achieved to date. It is based on the UV Fourier Transform Spectrometer. The most critical aspects of the design are the beamsplitter and the general optical surface tolerances, both of which put the instrument at the limit of today's technology.
