The interaction between plane gravitational and electromagnetic waves in the presence of an external gravitational field is considered for two classes of metric gravitation theories. Conditions of resonance interaction are found, and the possibility of the continuous amplification of a plane electromagnetic wave by a plane gravitational wave is demonstrated. It is concluded that the phenomenon considered can be used to set up a gravitational-wave detection experiment which would make it possible to choose between the two classes of metric theories.
