The UV-bright BL Lac object PKS2155-304 was monitored daily with IUE throughout November 1991, with continuous sampling during five days in the middle of the month. Considerable variability was detected. The UV flux doubled over the month-long period, with smaller, more rapid fluctuations superimposed. Variations were well-sampled during the continuous observing period, and changes of up to 10\ Similar rapid variations are apparent throughout the rest of the month but are marginally undersampled. There is no apparent lag between short- and long-wavelength light curves. (Simultaneous observations at other wavelengths, including optical and X-ray, will be reported at another time.) The redshift of PKS2155-304 is not known but is probably near z ~ 0.12, in which case the mean UV luminosity of the object is LUV 2*E(46) ergs/s (assuming isotropic radiation and H_0=50 km/s/Mpc). The 10\ Delta LUV /Delta t ~ 2 times 10(40) ergs/s(2) . While not requiring relativistic beaming, these are among the most extreme ultraviolet events observed in an extragalactic object.
