ESA's INTEGRAL space observatory for gamma-rays, launched in October 2002, carries a high-resolution Ge spectrometer (SPI), which performs, among others, measurements of gamma-ray lines from cosmic nucleosynthesis. Among the prime objectives are spectroscopy of the diffuse emission from Galactic ^26Al and positron annihilation, and search for supernova and nova radioactivities in ^44Ti, ^56Ni, and ^22Na lines. INTEGRAL's core program emphasizes a deep exposure of the inner Galaxy, with more than 4 Msec total exposure. In its first mission year, INTEGRAL shows excellent performance, although instrumental background is higher than predicted. Beyond the results on compact sources, which includes the detection of a new class of apparently-embedded Galactic sources, and gamma-ray bursts, INTEGRAL has seen the diffuse line emission from ^26Al and positron annihilation, as expected. The ^26Al line is found to be distributed in the Galaxy: it has been detected in the inner Galaxy and in the Cygnus region. The 1809 keV ^26Al gamma-ray line is not significantly broadened, contrary to earlier balloon measurement results. The annihilation emission is extended over a 10^o wide region of the inner Galaxy, rather smoothly distributed, and shows a slightly-broadened 511 keV line. The INTEGRAL mission is approved for four more years.
