The RAIDS experiment that will fly aboard the NOAA Tiros J satellite is a remote sensing platform encompassing a total of eight spectrographs, spectrometers, and photometers covering the 550-8744 A spectrum; these sensors are tasked with study of the major and minor constituents of the mesosphere, thermosphere, and ionosphere. Attention is presently given to the subset of RAIDS instruments devoted to near-UV, 1300-4000 A operation.
