NASA's Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer satellite was launched on June 7, 1992. The primary scientific goal of this satellite is to carry out the first all-sky survey throughout the EUV band. Four separate maps of the sky have been obtained in four separate filters whose bandpasses have average wavelengths at 100, 200, 400, and 600 A. In addition to the all-sky survey, a deep survey has been carried out in a strip along the ecliptic in two bands (100 and 200 A) to a sensitivity level 100 times deeper than the sky survey. We present the initial results from the EUVE all-sky and deep surveys. Lists of the brightest sources detected in each of the filters have been compiled; the current EUVE Bright Source List, obtained from initial processing of the data, contains 356 objects. An analysis that has been carried out for the first month of the sky survey indicates that approximately 50 percent of the sources are identified with optical counterparts; of the identified sources approximately 50 percent are associated with late-type stars (coronal emission and flare stars), approximately 30 percent with hot white dwarfs, and the remaining 20 percent with cataclysmic variables, planetary nebulae, hot star photospheres, and extragalactic objects.
