We present examples of an ongoing study of the initial mass fuction (IMF) in a sample of 30 star forming regions along the Perseus Arm, based on near infrared photometry (JHK). We calculate a mean reddening extiction in stars from the main sequence in each cluster, and then estimate their mass in two ways. First, using theoretical pre-main secuence evolutionary models assuming an age of 108 years (Meyer, 1996). Second, using the empirical relation between either MH or MK and log(mass), obtained by Carpenter et al. (1993) for T-Tauri and Ae/Be stars. A third method to the assignment of mass based on estimations of reddening and extiction by the stellar disks (Salas et al., 1998) is also used for comparison.
