Infrared spectroscopy of 11 radio galaxies at z equals 2-4 was obtained using a new array spectrometer on UKIRT, and choosing the galaxies on the basis of their being in an accessible part of the sky during the two observing runs and for the availability of adequate astrometry. Emission lines were detected from all of the objects, principally the forbidden O III 495.9 A/500.7 A doublet from the five galaxies at z greater than 2.9, and the H-alpha, forbidden N II 654.8 A/658.3 A complex from the galaxies at z less than 2.9. It was found that some of these galaxies may be in a protogalactic phase.
