Infrared sounding of the inner coma and of the nuclear region of comet Halley was performed from the Vega probe. An emissive center, a few kilometers in size, was detected with a temperature significantly in excess of 300K. In the surrounding central coma, hydrocarbon species or carbonaceous material seems to be present. The fluorescence signatures of H2O and CO2 were identified.
