The result of 1.25-30 micron photometry of 12 long period variables are given. It is shown that the infrared spectrum is consistent with an underlying star of temperatures from 2000-3500 K surrounded by an envelope of opacity of about 0.1 for Miras and 6 for the OH-IR object IRC+10011. In addition, pumping of the OH maser emission by 35 micron photons in the shell is demonstrated as a possible mechanism in Mira variables as well as in objects without optical counterpart.
