Results are reported for infrared observations of 20 galaxies which were made photometrically with a 60-inch and a 90-inch telescope. The data presented include the K-band (2.2 microns) flux values and magnitudes as well as some flux values in the J-band (1.25 microns), H-band (1.6 microns), and L-band (3.4 microns). The near-IR colors of galaxies in general are discussed, and previously published data are summarized for the (V-K), (U-B), and (B-V) colors of a large number of elliptical, spiral, irregular, and Seyfert galaxies. Based on analysis of these data, the following conclusion are made: (1) the IR radiation from ellipticals and normal spirals is primarily due to the stellar component, (2) IR flux values for the nuclear regions of 'dusty' spirals suggest strong intrinsic extinction and possible reradiation by dust, and (3) a nonthermal mechanism is a distinct possibility for the IR radiation from Seyfert galaxies.
