Comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 was observed with the Spitzer Space telescope. More than 30 small fragments were observed in addition to the largest ones (B and C). The associated meteoroid stream responsible for the tau-Herculids meteor shower was detected along the cometary orbit. This observation provides a unique view of an Earth-crossing meteoroid stream. Our goal is to reveal the origin of these particles. We use a model of creation and evolution of the meteoroid stream in the solar system. Several million particles, ejected over 36 perihelion passages, were simulated, and an artificial image was created and compared to the real one. We find that the infrared-detected meteoroids are a few revolutions old. The geometry of the observation prevents us from separating trails from each individual revolution, but the simulations provide constraints on their respective contribution to the signal. Based on comparing the real and simulated image, particles smaller than 100 microns are not detected.
