Infrared observations of VY CMa at the 3.60 m ESO telescope with the multiplex coding technique show a diameter which decreases from 1 to 2.2 microns and then increases from 2.2 to 4.8 microns. These results are interpreted by a model of a halo of scattered radiation from a central star and thermal emission from a disk heated by incident radiation from the halo.
