Quiescent state J, H, K photometry of six novae which have gone off in the last 100 years and of three dwarf novae is presented. Time-resolved J or H light curves of three novae (T Aur, CP Pup, and T Pyx) and three dwarf novae (TY Psc, BV Pup, and BZ UMa) were studied for orbital effects which could be related to a heating of the secondary star by the white dwarf. Sinusoidal variations are present in all light curves (except T Aur), which are generally consistent with ellipsoidal variations of the secondary. The infrared colors and amplitude of variations allow constraints to be placed on the periods, mass ratios, inclinations, and distances of the systems. No evidence of heating effects dominating the light curves is found, although the lack of knowledge of the correct orbtial period prevents this from being ruled out for T Pyx.
