Infrared transitions of C(I) and N(I) between 1336 and 1413 cm-1 have been measured using infrared diode laser spectroscopy. The transitions occur between fine structure levels with 1 up to 2 and principal quantum numbers of 4, 5 and 6 in C(I) and 5 and 6 in N(I). The results suggest some improvement in the accuracy of the calculated levels and provide predictions for the strongest transitions in this region of the infrared for astrophysical purposes.
