Radar Observations: Earth, Remote Sensing: Earth

Scientific paper

An approach has been suggested concerning estimation of informativity of Earth surface radar images obturned from space with remote sensing systems. Using a priori information on the statistics of the surface, the observed physical properties of the scatterer, the lifetimes of the statistical inhomogeneities a criterium has been proposed to estimate the efficience of various systems of the remote sensing. A possible informativity volume is calculated which can be obtained with the radar systems of Seasat-A, SIR-A, SIR-B, «Cosmos-1500», and scatterometer types depending on characteristics of the solved problem. A comparison is given of informativities of various systems.
