The dynamical consequences of the variation of the second zonal harmonic in the earth gravitational field (as revealed in analysis of the Lageos orbits by Yoder et al., 1983) for the polar motion (specifically, the Eulerian free motion) are investigated analytically. It is found that secular decrease in the second zonal harmonic causes a secular decrease in the Eulerian frequency, with a corresponding increase in the period of about 8.4 d/Myr and a decrease in wobble amplitude of about 3 x 10 to the -9th/cycle (based on linear approximations).
