The influence of solar activity on the characteristics of meteor trails in the upper atmosphere is investigated. Observations of the drift rates, durations of luminescence, numbers of persistent trails, rates of trail broadening and altitudes of the regions of minimum and maximum drift rates were compared with relative sunspot Wolf numbers for August from 1950 through 1962. Increases in trail luminescence durations, persistent trail numbers and the altitudes of the regions of maximum and minimum drift rates are observed during the solar activity maxima. The final effect is explained by the reorganization of upper atmosphere circulation.
