Collisionless plasma shock wave formation and stationarity are discussed. The role of hydrodynamic overturning in the shock formation and the role of weak dissipation are considered. Ion reflection at an electric field drop is analyzed. It is shown that a number of subtle details of the shock wave structure can be interpreted as simple consequences of the wave large-scale structure.
