It is noted that no emission or absorption lines have ever been detected in the solar radio spectrum and that such detection is probably impossible. Calculations are performed which show that the emission of plasma waves by atoms is more effective than the emission of ordinary photons in a turbulent plasma medium. It is concluded that this effect may be one of the reasons why solar radio lines are not observed.
