On the basis of simple models of Jupiter and Saturn, the effect of the degree of differential rotation of the planets on their shape and gravitational field is analyzed. The dependence of the square of the angular velocity of rotation on the distance to the axis is taken in the form of a power law with exponents of 2, 4, and 6. The coefficients in the expansion of the gravitational potential are calculated up to k = 12. A formula relating the small parameter of shape theory and the mean radius of a differentially rotating planet to observable quantities is given.
