Thorne, Misner, and Wheeler (1973) have developed a formalism (PPN formalism), i.e., a seven-parameter post-Newtonian metric which for concrete values of the parameters constitutes a solution of the field equation for any relativistic theory of gravitation. It is known that in the general theory of relativity, the proper field of gravitating masses does not influence in the first approximation the values of relativistic corrections to the problem of n bodies. It has been shown, however, that in the general PPN case, for spherically symmetric bodies, there appears an additional term (the Nordtvedt effect) in the Lagrange function. Corrections to celestial-mechanics effects caused by this additional term are computed and are shown to be much smaller than the PPN corrections.
