With the deactivation of the SAMPEX/MAST instrument, we have been without a method of directly measuring high energy (tens of MeV/nuc) mean ionic charge states for solar energetic particles. However, indirect methods of inferring high energy ionic charge states may be employed. Sollitt et al. (2008) presented a method for inferring high energy mean ionic charge states by fitting a model to the SEP energy-dependent decay profiles for a variety of elements within a given SEP event. Data from ACE/SIS are used, as well as data from ACE/ULEIS. Three SEP events (Nov. 6, 1997; Nov. 4, 2001; Apr. 21, 2002) were fitted with this model, yielding mean ionic charge state results that were compared to available SAMPEX/MAST measurements. The 2001 and 2002 events had similar charge states between the two measurements, while the SAMPEX/MAST measurements for the 1997 event were higher than the inferred charge states. Another event (Nov. 26, 2000) yielded upper limits to the charge states. The energy ranges for these measurements vary, depending on the available data, e.g. up to 168 MeV/nuc for Fe in the Nov. 6, 1997 event, but only up to 26 MeV/nuc for the Apr. 21, 2002 event. In this presentation, we will determine whether the decay profiles for the Jan. 20, 2005 SEP event and the large December 2006 SEP events can be fit by the Sollitt et al. (2008) model, and if so, we will attempt to apply the method to derive their inferred charge states. If possible, we may also consider other events from that solar cycle. Furthermore, we will evaluate the method's application to STEREO particle data, which are also available for the December 2006 SEP events. We expect that, if successful, the method will allow multispacecraft ionic charge state results for large SEP events in the current solar cycle.
